Homesick New York

For this second exhibition at the gallery, box galerie
presents exclusively Michael Ackerman’s (IS, 1967) New
York — recent and earlier images taken from the book-
object Homesick New York, published by Blow Up Press.
No tourist clichés, no glamour, but a gaze both tender and
uncompromising, turned toward the margins and those
who inhabit them — the anonymous, the ones left behind
by norms and their constraints. A profoundly human vision
of a world that can at times seem dehumanized. Love at
every moment. Love for New York, love for the wanderers,
the outsiders, the forgotten. Michael Ackerman’s New York
appears at once hallucinatory and hallucinant.
