DARSTELLUNG

DESCRIPTION

FOTOGALERIE WIEN was founded in 1982 by a team of seven art photographers. then as now the goal has been to present current and experimental art photography across borders. In the meantime about 200 exhibitions have been held. A fundamental concern of FOTOGALERIE WIEN is the commitment to present not only internationally renowned artists but above all the work of younger photographers from Austria and abroad. FOTOGALERIE WIEN organizes ten exhebitions a year. Since 1985 every exhibition has been documented by an issue of the invitation magazine BILDER, which is sent to approximately 2500 interested persons in Austria and abroad. This publication is supplemented by two catalogues a year. Since 1995 all the exhibitions have also been documented by video recordings.

SUMMARY

Special Emphasis of Our Work:

1. Exhibitions of renowned Austrian and international art photographers
2. Exhibitions of "Young Photographers" (from Austria and abroad)
3. Exchange exhibitions with foreign photographic galleries (group exhibitions)
4. Cooperation and exchange of information with galleries, photographic institutions and museums in Austria and abroad
5. "Communication" - once a month (every second Wednesday of the month) the entire team of FOTOGALERIE WIEN meets for a "jour fix". Photographic works that have been submitted are discussed and in addition artists are provided an opportunity to ventilate issues of content and technique.
Fixed Points of Our Programme:

1. Theme of the year: four exhibitions on a specific photographic theme are held in the course of the year. A summary of these exhibitions is published in a catalogue at the end of every year.
2. Retrospective: one retrospective a year of a well-known Austrian art photographer (documented by a catalogue). This is always the first exhibition of the year in February.
3. One exchange exhibition a year
4. Five double exhibitions a year, featuring two artists whose work is shown in the large and the small gallery, respectively. An important aspect is the formal or content interaction in the work of the two artists concerned.
Our archive contains informational material and press clippings on all the artists who have exhibited with us and their catalogues are on view in the office. Due to the lively interchange of information with galleries, relevant institutions and museums in Austria and abroad current invitations, catalogues, journals and information about competitions and awards are also available from our office.
